New Spider-Man Costume and the New Spider-Man Movie
By: Schnyger

When a franchise reboot happens, common folks always seem to get confused. There is always a person asking "But wait, what about that thing that happened in the last film" or "why did they change these actors" and I have to sit down and say "Dad, they restarted the franchise, it has nothing to do with the other movies." Its not just my dad who has these issues, but it is a prime example. Sorry dad.
And now they are rebooting the Spider-Man franchise. Well, technically they have been for some time and if you didn't know that you A: don't read by blog and B: just aren't on the "up and up". I initially had
mixed feelings about the reboot which I have voiced already (and truth be told, I wouldn't have minded one or two more films from the old crew), but I really do have a good amount of faith in the new film. And that good faith has been rewarded by the very first picture of the Spider-Man costume (in case you somehow missed it, that would be the big picture at the top of the article).
I'm sure there are some mixed opinions of it. There always are with these sorts of things. Personally, I like it. Its a little different from the previous suit with a good modern look. The main argument will probably be that the actor is so darn scrawny. To that, all I have to say is...its freaking Peter Parker! He's a nerdy high school student! There's no reason why he should be buff at this point. Its part of his character. So get over it! Plus this is just a picture. In motion, the suit will probably look even better. Remember when the Dark Knight was coming out and they first showed the new costume? The opinion was a bit mixed but in the film itself the old suit doesn't even compare. In fact, everytime I watch the Dark Knight now, I think of how weird the old suit looks at the beginning. It looks bulky, immobile, and unrealistic.
Even if you don't believe in this suit, there are plenty of reasons to believe in the movie. Andrew Garfield is playing Spider-Man and for anyone who saw the
Social Network (which you really should have), you know he is a very talented actor with that sort of Peter Parker vulnerability to him. This film is returning to high school and cutting out Mary Jane (at least for the time being). In her place, we have Gwen Stacy who was Parker's first girlfriend in the comics. Her character is known for a very specific moment in comic book history, and in case the movie decides to follow those footsteps, I won't spoil it for the uninformed. Gwen is being played by the very sharp Emma Stone. Emma Stone seems to keep popping up in very successful movies, so this is a good sign. If she manages to tap in to that
charm she had in Zombieland, we are in luck.
As I said in my
previous Spider-Man post, the movie is being helmed by Marc Webb who directed 500 Days of Summer, a romantic comedy that didn't suck. In fact, it was really good. I expect this new Spider-Man film to be very good. It'll probably be too good and make everyone think the previous Spider-Man films sucked. Anyone who hates on Spider-Man 2 deserves a quick punch to the throat. Just saying.
Don't worry, as new info keeps coming for the new Spider-Man, I will continue to post about it. The movie doesn't come out till 2012 so we have some time. Meanwhile, feel free to post your very own opinions at the bottom of this page. Its very simple. Just look at all the spamming ad-bots on my other posts. If they are able to do it, so can you. Lastly, I'm on twitter @thetimsnyder. Thanks.
PS: 2012 is going to be a great year for superhero movies with Dark Knight Rises, the Superman relaunch, and The Avengers all coming out that year. Hurray!
