New Pirates Trailer has Set Sail! (On Stranger Tides)
I have to say first and foremost, I am a big Pirates of the Caribbean fan!  I should also admit that I have to spell check every time I type Caribbean.  That being said, I've wondered if the series wasn't best left with the epic third installment of the original trilogy.  Some will say the series should have ended with the first film.  Those people are wrong.  Though in so many ways the very definition of a light and breezy summer blockbuster, the Pirates series actually has quite a few darker layers of love, betrayal, greed, and heroism underneath.  Despite my love for the series, I've questioned the addition of more movies.  The new trailer that has appeared out of nowhere has only fanned the flames of doubt.  Check it for yourselves.

Its strange, I feel the first photos of this film were just released and now we have a trailer.  I suppose it makes sense considering the film comes out in May.  Normally a trailer makes me feel more excited for a film.  This trailer made me feel less excited.  Is it just me or do the characters feel out of place  with all of the cast changes.  I realize the series was all about Depp and his Jack Sparrow, but the change in faces and scenery around him seems odd.  Also, the movie seems less mystical, magical, and supernatural.  The scale as a whole seems smaller...even compared to the first film.

Now you might be saying its only a trailer.  That would be a valid point except for the fact that the purpose of trailers is to flash those big, out of this world moments.  The only solace I hold to is the fact that this can be considered a teaser trailer.  Also its being helmed by an Oscar nominated director who's film won Best Picture.  Rob Marshall is his name and he is known for stunningly visual films.   They also have a tendency to be musicals which makes him an interesting choice.  I suppose I am happy to see Ian McShane playing Blackbeard.  Ian McShane is pretty much the man.

As with all trailers, its something you got to wait out.  Its a little sad that even if the trailer were a complete waste (which it isn't), I would still see the movie simply because of the Pirates title.  I guess I'm a slave to the Hollywood system, but just because I see the film doesn't mean I'll like it.
